how can i battle the ghost and where

Ok here is a complete walkthrough to meet the ghost:

After you have reached level 9 and defeated the boss in the forest, talk to Bert at the guild, and he will inform you that Evie is at the abandoned house. After talking to her, you'll need to figure out a way to stay up late and visit the abandoned house after midnight.

You'll need alchemy to do that. If you don't know alchemy, buy the alchemy book from the alchemy shop. You'll be able to craft energy potions if you craft at least two items. Energy potions need a mushroom from the forest to craft, so get the "treasure finder" from the accessory shop to help you find one. Energy potions will allow you to stay up late and meet the ghost at the abandoned house after midnight.

Talk to Evie the next day, and she will inform you that you'll need a spirit stone to be able to fight the ghost. The spirit stone is sold at a secret shop next to the guild at night. 

Equip it, use an energy potion, and visit the abandoned house after midnight to meet the ghost.

Talk to the bartender for any hints on what to do next.

is level 12 the max level for now?

Yes, for this version. Next version will arrive before 2021.

how does one get to the new areas and enemies?

A boss appears in the forest after you reach a certain level.

Talk to Bert at the guild or get tips from the Tavern's barkeeper on what to do next. Craft items with Alchemy to get prepared.

I love the style here, it reminds me of old PC-98 eroge along with the viewport window and the like. However I want to suggest some QoL issues I found, although I understand you are pushing Ren'Py so some things may not be possible.

- Loading bar for explore. It adds a delay to exploration that I'm not really sure why it's there?

- Nothing events. Rapidly clicking explore over and over and getting nothing, can we add a 'explore until event' button? Accepting the risks of the amount of time to get to the next thing. 

- Fast combat. So being able to skip animations would also be nice.

- Any way to reduce cuts to black? There's quite a few when say, you find treasure. It takes long there, too.

I like this a lot though. Would you be able to mention what sort of content/interests we'll see?

I understand your concerns and have already addressed some of them in the later versions of the game.

The Explore button gets faster as you play more in the game. The battle sequences are an integral part of the game and are not skippable. Your character gets stronger to a point where you go through them much faster.
I have played the game from the beginning multiple times, and I'll always improve and refine the balance.

is the one and only picture above really putting your best foot forward?
The description of the game sounds good, but the single picture is not doing it any favors... At least include a picture of the town as well, preferably a bit more than that as well..

Lots of good you got going here. Keep up the great work.
Beat the current version, story wise. Got max level of 7. Took max upgrade of Magic Arrow.  Big fight right now is duo slime in forest at night.
Also found the Gold Chest with no luck up.
